Downsizing for Retirement

downsizing for retirement

When you are considering retirement it could also be a good time to think about downsizing from the larger family home to a smaller one suited to your needs in retirement.

There are many reason you may want to do this:

Less Financial Burden

By downsizing you can reduce your monthly mortgage or depending on the amount you have remaining pay them off completely.

If you have paid off your mortgage already then the money that you free up could be used for holidays, grandchildren nest egg or just rainy day savings.

Lower Maintenance

You will immediately free up time cleaning and maintaining parts of the house you rarely use. Spare rooms, children's room etc.

On the outside of your house if you opt for a smaller garden there will be less physical manual jobs to do, freeing up time to do what you want to do.

New Area

Downsizing gives you the opportunity to explore a new area or move do that dream location in the coast or country. Potentially you want to move closer to family or friends?

De-Clutter

If you do decide to downsize you will need to either get rid of some of the clutter you may have in your house or decide to store you belongings you don't need regularly or don't have space for in the new house.
